Patrons rave about the generous portion sizes, with many noting that a small meal often feels more like a generous serving. The crispy fish batter and flavorful fish make for memorable bites, consistently earning glowing reviews. Guests appreciate the island of nostalgia that Pic Ups embodies, with many returning over the years since childhood. Friendly staff always add a personal touch, creating an experience that feels warm and inviting. The traditional wrapping of chips also enhances the experience, keeping flavors intact and contributing to the chippy charm.

Most Disliked

Some customers note the cash-only payment system can be inconvenient, requiring trips to the bank or ATMs nearby. Additionally, the high demand for their popular dishes can sometimes lead to longer wait times during peak hours. While the traditional menu delights many, those looking for modern twists may find limited options. A few customers also mention that their dietary restrictions, particularly for vegan options, could be expanded for better inclusivity.

I have been coming here since I was 9 years old, I am now 36 and living in Australia and the highlight of visiting the UK is visiting Pic Ups. This is the quintessential British chip shop. The menu, the wrapping and most of the prices are unchanged since the 90’s. Unheard of. All the chips get wrapped seperate- retaining all their flavour. The fish batter is excellent and since I went veggie the veggie burger is so tasty, with onion, lettuce and burger sauce. Really big portions at great price. (Beware- cash only :)) Above all, the main reason I keep coming back is to support a family business that meets you every time with a friendly smile and a chat. A chip shop that is traditional, friendly, community orientated (on election day they catered for 40 pensioners in a neighbouring village!) and still wraps their chips in paper! Keep it up for another 25 years Pic Ups! You are simply the best! 👏🏻

I've been using Pic Ups all my life. I've had chips from many different places over the years. I always compare them to Pic Ups. Not many can match them. If you ask nicely, they'll double fry them for you too! The fish is always crisp and tasty, the burgers are good, and I the pukka pies are better here than anywhere. Top chippy grub, no fluff. Amy runs a great shop! Park just down the road in the free public car park.

Love this place so much - my favourite takeaway in the world. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, they always ask after the family and we have a nice catch up. Great value - and the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Can’t recommend highly enough !!

The best chips in Sussex by miles. I asked why the other day and the owner, Susan, explained it is mainly to do with using the best available potatoes from trusted suppliers. Her portions are very generous too, and the welcome always very warm.
